It all started in 1978 with the confection of homemade jams and jellies in the house from the 19th century where Lia and Zé Carlos live.
The first jelly was made out fresh jabuticaba (a tropical fruit), straight out of the backyard. Soon enough Lia was working on jams and jellies made of umbú, cambuí, cajá, siriguela, maracujá and many other exotic fruits. Nowadays, depending on the season, it is possible to find 30 different varieties of jams, as well as dry fruits and vegetables, chutneys, homemade liqueurs, spicy peppers, sweet treats and compotes.
In 1990, when they decide to open up a Bed & Breakfast, the chosen name couldn't be any other but Casa da Geléia (The Jelly's House in Portuguese). Breakfast at Casa da Geléia goes way beyond the jellies; Lia's devotion to her kitchen guarantees an excellent breakfast experience every day.
Zé Carlos has lived most of his life in the region, and as a bird-watcher he can give valuable tips about the best sites to visit and where to find the local birds – all that in fluent English, French and Spanish.
Come visit the Casa da Geléia and have a fun-delicious time!
Situated on a large shaded property, the Bed & Breakfast has a main house where breakfast is served and a separate building with six large and well-ventilated rooms. All the rooms are equipped with nice bathrooms, minibar, air conditioning and ceiling fans, as well as a splendid view to the city of Lençóis. The property is filled with trees and flower bushes that attract a large numbers of birds. It is possible to observe a big variety of these beautiful birds - especially hummingbirds - while breakfast is being served.
The Casa da Geléia is listed on the best international travel guides, always with high recommendations for its quality of service, food, and welcoming environment.
